Biography: Monifa A. Jumanne is associate pastor at Trinity African Baptist Church in Mableton, Georgia, where she serves as director of ministries, preacher, and Bible study instructor. She is an ordained minister and pastoral caregiver. In 1997, Dr. Jumanne became the first female administrative dean and first dean of student and community life at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta.

Rev. Dr. Jumanne is currently executive director of the Health Education and Leadership Project at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC/HELP), a faith initiative funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She is the primary author of a comprehensive, faith-based HIV prevention curriculum, Affirming a Future with Hope: HIV & Substance Abuse Prevention for African American Communities of Faith, and spearheads its implementation across the United States as lead trainer of the National Faith Leaders Training Institute.

Monifa A. Jumanne earned the B.A. at Western Michigan University, the M.Ed. and Ph.D. at Wayne State University, and the Master of Divinity degree at Candler School of Theology/Emory University. She received administrative credentials at the Leadership Academy of California State University/Hayward, certification as an education consultant at the University of California/Berkeley, and certification in Clinical Supervision of Teachers at the University of California/Los Angeles. From 1973-81, she worked in Monrovia, Liberia, as chair of English and social studies at the American School and instructor of English at the University of Liberia. Dr. Jumanne is co-author of Pathways to Prevention: Guiding Youth to Wise Adulthood and was editorial consultant to the Women of Color Study Bible.

In May 2000, she traveled to West Africa to conduct training in HIV prevention at the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary. She has been invited to help lead HIV prevention efforts in Cape Town, South Africa in January 2003, with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Recognition of her work includes commendation from Mayor Bill Campbell, Atlanta, and from U.S. Congress Representative John Lewis. She has been honored by International Who&Mac226;s Who of Professionals, Association of Theological Schools, National Women of Achievement, Inc., United Negro College Fund, and the Student Christian League.
